Preschool bound!
September 6, 2008 Lea 2 CommentsWe decided a few months ago that Lea might benefit from going to Preschool. See, being a stay at home Mom is great but there are certain skills that I was afraid would be lacking when she got to regular school. Things like socialization, listening to another adult and being with a group of kids. Preschool seemed to be a great way to introduce her to school and help her build some of those skills. We registered her with a school just down the street from us and yesterday she got the opportunity to go into the school, have a look around and meet her teachers. They are doing a staggered entry (which I have since learned is very very normal) so not all her classmates were there but she did meet a few of them. She officially starts on Wednesday. She will be going three mornings a week for 2.5 hours.
What initially attracted me to the school was that it was close by and the price was one that I could afford and that I found reasonable. I think 2.5 hours is a perfect amount of time for her to be away from me and this way Bee can still take the car to work since I can walk Lea to and from school. I have also found out from a lot of people that it is an excellent preschool with lots of glowing recommendations. It has actually been in place for 41 years now!
Yesterday I got to have a really good look around (I had been given a tour before registering but didn’t get to see all the rooms since there were classes in session). What really impresses me is that the preschool feels like an actual school. There are posters on the wall with shapes, colors, the days of the week etc. It doesn’t feel like a glorified daycare and the emphasis really is on learning and doing things independently.
I think this is going to be a really great thing for all of us. Lea gets to learn new things and practice being away from Mommy, I get to spend more time with just Anna, and hopefully the transition to kindergarten next year will be made that much easier. I am so glad that we decided to go ahead with this decision. And ultimately hope she has fun! Now I have to go label every piece of clothing she has (and may wear to school!)
